43bee) Female Red Mason Bee
Female Red Mason Bee
2x actual size
I love what Same Cannon, our companion artist, found out about her bee.
"This solitary bee is estimated to be between 120
and 200 times more efficient a pollinator than the honey bees as they
don’t have pollen sacs. This means that the sticky pollen is collected on the
underside of their body and transferred so efficiently between plants.
This has been recognised by the fruit industry, which is now actively
using them in orchards. I love them for this. And because they don’t sting and
they are able, among other things, to use discarded snail shells for their
cocoons." S. Cannon.
Vintage powder compact, embroidery thread, wool, gold leaf, beads.
